Pics or it didn’t happen!
While this phrase is mostly used in response to far-fetched claims, it also applies perfectly to any event nowadays. Because whether the event is corporate or more informal, if there’s anything exciting about it, there will be pictures, and they will be on social media, especially Instagram.
Therefore, give guests something to share!
Instagram now has one million monthly active users, and over half of these use the platform every day. Given these statistics, it’s clear that Instagram has great potential for helping your venue gain more exposure, popularity, and clients.
But it’s not enough to be on the platform, your venue needs to become Instagramable and make people feel inspired to snap and share pictures.
With the rise of social media, venues are changing the way they approach their decorations and overall aesthetic. Previously, the main focus was on how the space made guests feel. And while that’s still a key aspect, now it’s also equally important to take into account how the venue will look in pictures, and if the space encourages taking pictures in the first place.
Here are several tips on how to make your venue more Instagramable:
Any type of venue can become worthy of pictures, be it elegant, rustic, funky-looking or any other style. The key is to create a recognisable visual identity by emphasising your aesthetic. You essentially want the opposite of boring or common. People don’t take pictures of boring spaces.
If you’re not sure what type of look to go for, there are several themes hugely popular on Instagram at the moment:
Each of these themes works better with a certain venue style and personality. You can borrow one of them to use as inspiration for the look of your venue.
The above-mentioned themes are all quite trendy at the moment, so it can be helpful to keep up with trends to attract and inspire people.
That being said, if your venue already has an original style that doesn't follow trends, that's also great! In fact, the more unusual the space, the more Instagramable it will be. Remember, you want the opposite of boring.
Take advantage of any special backdrops your venue has. It can be a building facade, a stunning outdoor view, a rustic fireplace, or anything else that people will find special. Make sure to enhance this and also promote it yourself. If you share posts of your unique exotic garden, chances are your guests will as well.
If you can’t identify a special backdrop for your venue, no worries. You can simply create one using decorations. Here are several ideas/examples:
The world is your oyster, you just need to get creative and find something that suits the style of your venue.
Similarly, during events, you can create dedicated picture zones with a wow factor, so that your venue becomes more Instagramable. You can use props, plants, balloons, neon signs, anything that suits the vibe. For a corporate event such as an award ceremony, incorporate the logo/name of the brand or event in creative ways.
Last but not least, lighting makes a huge difference in how your space will look on camera. It’s always best to consult a professional to assess the space and recommend the perfect lighting to ensure your venue will shine in pictures (pun intended).
